★ ★ ★ ★ ★ أسماؤه: يقال له مسجد بني ظفر لوقوعه في منازل بني ظفر.
يقال له: مسجد البغلة لما يزعم بعض الناس أن بغلة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ربطت هناك وتركت حوافرها أثراً في الحجر. (وستأتي الدراسة عن ذلك).
وتجدر الإِشارة إِلى أن الخياري (المتوفى (1380هـ) أطلق عليه اسم مسجد المائدة أيضاً. ولا يصح ذلك لأن إِبراهيم رفعت الذي زار مسجد البغلة ومسجد المائدة في سنة 1318هـ ذكرهما بعنوان مستقل كما أن الخلفية التاريخية التي تذكر لكل منهما تختلف عن الأخرى.
موقعه: يقع بطرف من الحرة الشرقية في شرقي البقيع وهو على يمين السالك عن طريق الملك عبد العزيز الطالع بالقرب من مبنى هيئة الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر.
صلاة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في مسجد بني ظفر:
تفيد الروايات أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم صلى في هذا المسجد وكان يتردد إليه، وفيه سمع قراءة عبد الله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه، فقد روى ابن شبه عن الحارث بن سعيد بن عبيد الحارثي (أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم صلى في مسجد بني حارثة وفي بني ظفر).
وعن محمد بن فضالة الظفري وكان ممن صحب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ((أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أتاهم في مسجد بني ظفر، فجلس على الصخرة التي في مسجد بني ظفر اليوم ومعه عبد الله بن مسعود ومعاذ بن جبل وأناس من أصحابه، وأمر النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قارئاً فقرأ حتى أتى على هذه الآية (فكيف إِذا جئنا من كل أمة بشهيد وجئنا بك على هؤلاء شهيداً) فبكى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم حتى اضطرب لحياه، فقال: ((أي رب شهدت على من أنا بين ظهرانيه فكيف بمن لم أر))؟.
