فيما ورد عن رسول الله –صلى الله عليه وسلم-، أنه أوصى بالدعاء بخمس كلمات عند دخول المسجد، حيث إن هناك ثلاثة أمور أوصى بها النبي –صلى الله عليه وسلم- عند دخول المسجد، التسليم على النبي –صلى الله عليه وسلم، ثم الدعاء بخمس كلمات هي: «الّلهُمّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ»، وثالثًا قول هذا الدعاء عند الخروج: « الّلهُمّ إِنّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ»، لما ورد في سنن أبي داود، أنه قال رسولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «إِذَا دَخَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ المَسْجِدَ فَلْيُسَلّمْ عَلَى النّبيّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، ثُمّ لَيَقُلْ: الّلهُمّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ، فإِذَا خَرَجَ فَلْيَقُلْ: الّلهُمّ إِنّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ».
