أطم كان لبعض اليهود، وربما سمي باسم صاحبه الأول، ثم صار لبني حارثة، وهم فرع من فروع قبيلة الأوس الأنصارية.
يقع شرقي المدينة المنورة في حرة واقم قرب وادي قناة ويبعد عن المسجد النبوي حوالي ستة أكيال، وكان في طريق المسافرين إلى نجد والقادمين منها يمر بالقرب منه، وقد حفرت بجانبه بئر يستقي منها الناس. وما زالت آثار هذا الأطم موجودة حتى الآن قرب الخط الدائري الثاني للمدينة المنورة، ويرتبط اسم هذا الأطم ببعض الأحداث التاريخية، منها: أن المسلمين عندما عادوا من غزوة قرقرة الكدر توقفوا عنده وقسموا غنائم الغزوة، ومنها أن عمر بن الخطاب شيع بعض الأنصار الذين بعثهم إلى الكوفة إلى صرار، ومنها: رأى مرة قرب هذا الأطم ناراً فجاءها فوجد امرأة ومعها صبية يبكون من الجوع والبرد فتألم لهم وذهب إلى بيت المال وحمل الدقيق على كتفه وجاءهم وبقي معهم حتى أكلوا ... ويبدو أن الأطم تحول إلى محطة استراحة للمسافرين، وقد بني بجانبه فيما بعد مبنى كبير على غرار (الخانات) التي يأوي إليها المسافرون ومازال هذا البناء قائماً حتى الآن
