★ ★ ★ ★ ★ تعتبر محطات توليد الطاقة الكهربائية ووسائل النقل أهم مصادر تلوث الهواء في مدينة الرياض، نظراً لما تنتجه من ملوثات غازية وجسيمات صلبة كنتيجة حتمية لعمليات الإحتراق ولوجود نسبة كبيرة من الشوائب المصاحبة للوقود. إن عدد السكان في مدينة الرياض وحدها يتجاوز الستة ملايين نسمة تقريباً، وهذه الأعداد بكل تأكيد أدت إلى زيادة كبيرة في أعداد وسائل النقل والحاجة إلى الطاقة والخدمات المختلفة وبالتالي زيادة في كميات إستهلاك الوقود وإحراقه مما أدى حتماً إلى زيادة مفرطة في معدلات انبعاث الملوثات. معدل استهلاك الكهرباء، على سبيل المثال، ارتفع إرتفاعاً شديداً في السنوات الماضية ولا يزال يتوقع له نفس الارتفاع مستقبلاً بمعدل 5.4% بحسب ما يؤكده المسؤولون في الشركة السعودية للكهرباء.
Electrical power plants and transportation are considered the most important sources of air pollution in the city of Riyadh, due to the gas and solid pollutants they produce as an inevitable result of combustion operations and the presence of a large percentage of impurities associated with fuel. The population of the city of Riyadh alone exceeds almost six million, and these numbers have certainly led to a significant increase in the numbers of means of transportation and the need for different energy and services and thus an increase in the quantities of fuel consumption and burning, which inevitably led to an excessive increase in pollutant emission rates. The rate of electricity consumption, for example, has increased dramatically in the past years and is still expected to have the same increase in the future at a rate of 5.4%, according to what officials in the Saudi Electricity Company confirm.
