★ ★ ★ ★ ★ رجع تاريخ تأسيس شركة الخطوط الجوية الكويتية إلى فبراير 1953 على يد أثنين من رجال الأعمال الكويتيين وبرأس مال بلغ وقتها حوالي 150ألف دينار كويتي،[2] وبدأت الشركة رحلاتها رسمياً في 16 مارس 1954 برحلات إلى مدن بيروت، دمشق، ومدينة عبادان في إيران، وبعد مرور عام على الانطلاق تعرضت الشركة إلى بعض المشاكل الاقتصادية مما أدى إلى تدخل الحكومة الكويتية وشرائها لنسبة 50% من رأس مال الشركة، وقامت أيضاً بمضاعفة رأس المال، وأدت هذه الزياده إلى شراء الحكومة لنسبة 50% الباقية في وقت لاحق، وأصبحت الشركة منذ عام 1956 ملكاً للحكومة الكويتية بالكامل، فقامت بعد ذلك بتغيير اسمها إلى "مؤسسة الخطوط الجوية الكويتية".[2]
مع بداية عام 1960 قامت الشركة بتوسيع شبكة خطوطها والقيام بشراء واستئجار بعض الطائرات القديمة، ففي عام 1962 قامت الخطوط الكويتية بإستئجار طائرة من طراز "كوميت سي-4" والتي كانت تعد أول طائرة نفاثة في العالمK[2] وقامت أيضاً بتسير أولى رحلاتها إلى العاصمة البريطانية لندن بمعدل ثلاث رحلات أسبوعياً، وقامت عام 1968 بشراء ثلاث طائرات جديدة من طراز بوينغ 707 النفاثة، وخلال عشرة سنوات بلغ عدد طائرات البوينغ 707 ضمن أسطول الشركة عشرة طائرات. في عام 1978 دخلت الخطوط الجوية الكويتية مرحلة جديدة في تاريخها عندما اشترت طائرتين من طراز بوينغ 747-200، وقامت بشراء الطائرة الثالثة في العام التالي، وهذا ما سهل لها التوسع أكثر في وجهاتها فقامت بتسيير رحلات إلى نيويورك ومانيلا. واستمرت الشركة في توسيع أسطولها الجوي، فقامت بين عامي 1980 و1981 بشراء أربعة طائرات من طراز بوينغ 727، وفي العام التالي اشترت ثمانية طائرات من طراز إيرباص إيه 300[2]، وبحلول عام 1986 قامت الشركة بشراء ثلاثة طائرات من طراز بوينغ 767.

Le mal m'a pris de choisir cette compagnie...
Les appareils étaient corrects et de qualité (330 et 777). Ponctualité, propreté ok. Mais à Paris, avant de partir, j'ai acheté une bouteille de vin dans une boutique duty free. Mon sac a été scellé et désigné comme ne présentant aucun danger, et admis en cabine.
A Paris, aucun problème pour monter à bord. Mais à Koweït on change d'avion. On débarque dans la zone d'Arrivée et on doit repasser par les scan de sécurité pour entrer dans la zone "Départ". Donc, ils ont découvert que j'avais cette bouteille de vin avec moi. Gros scandale ! Panique ! Trois flics ont accouru pour appréhender ce dangereux trafiquant qui transportait le produit "interdit" selon leur « Charia » : non, pas la cocaïne, explosif ou une autre bombe - le vin ! Ce produit tellement dangereux pour ces fonctionnaires.
Le faut que je suis touriste et pas un citoyen koweïtien, et que je ne fais que transiter dans la zone internationale, sans sortir en ville ou de la zone sécurisée de l'aéroport, ne change rien pour eux : ils m'ont confisqué mon achat duty free et retenu 1/2 heure pour on ne sait pas quoi.
A bord, évidemment, pas aucun boisson convenable pour manger le repas (d'ailleurs, ils se sont mélangés les pinceaux par rapport à la précommande que j'ai fait...) - bière, vis sont « Haram » pour eux. Sont admis seulement des boissons sucrées chimiques américains. Curieux... Les marques américaines sont admises mais le vin français, interdit. « Logique » incompréhensible.
En tout cas, je déconseille fortement cette compagnie, sauf si vous voulez vous soumettre à leur idéologie, supporter leurs humeurs, se faire saisir vos achats duty free et voyager 11h à sec.

In Paris, no problem to board. But in Kuwait, we change plane. We land in the Arrival Zone and we must go back through the security scan to enter the "Departure" zone. So, they discovered that I had this bottle of wine with me. Big scandal! Panic ! Three cops rushed to apprehend this dangerous trafficker who transported the product "forbidden" according to their "sharia": no, not cocaine, explosive or another bomb - the wine! This product is so dangerous for these officials.
The fact that I am a tourist and not a Kuwaiti citizen, and that I only transit in the international zone, without leaving the city or the safe zone of the airport, does not change anything for them: they confiscated my purchase duty free and withhold half an hour for you do not know what.
On board, obviously, not any suitable drink to eat the meal (besides, they mixed the brushes compared to the pre-order that I made ...) - beer, screws are "Haram" for them. Only American sweetened drinks are allowed. Curious ... American brands are allowed but French wine, prohibited. "Logic" incomprehensible.
In any case, I strongly advise this company, unless you want to submit to their ideology, support their moods, get your shopping duty free and travel 11h dry.
