★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Such an amazing place to visit on a quiet weekend. Shaqra is about 2 1/2 hours NW of riyadh. The heritage village is a work in progress, and well worth the trip. We visit a few times a year, just to see whats newly restored. Our last trip gave us a peek at how the local work crew made the old, traditional mud bricks used i the reconstruction process. Its easy to imagine what life was like back in the day. My kids were all raised out in the desert in fairly similar conditions, and even they love to visit the heritage villages of Shaqra and Ushaiger, which is a 10-15 minute drive from Shaqra, and well worth a visit to, as well.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful village with very good tour guides and museum. The restoration work is ongoing so it can only get better! The preservation and restoration so far is great. The market is a good place for antiques and food, and seemed cheaper than Riyadh. This is worth the trip from Riyadh for families or school trips.
