Asir National Park is located in the fertile mountains of Asir in southwestern Saudi Arabia at an altitude of 7,450 feet above sea level. Abha's mild cool climate and cloudburst make it a popular tourist destination in Saudi Arabia. Abha ruled the Ottoman Empire until World War I. The Ottoman army fort is located on the highest hill of the city and is being restored. Abha was the capital of Prince Asir Ibn Ayad before the Ottoman Empire. In 9, Yahya ibn Hasan al-Ayyad, grandson of Ibn Ayyad, gained complete independence from the Ottoman Turks and returned to his family throne in Abha. During the unification of Saudi Arabia in 9 AH, the Najdi fighters loyal to Ibn Saud and other Brotherhood tribes conquered the captive.
